One of the reasons we find it so hard to think about music technology and musical performance as being separate is our imaginations. I think we can very easily imagine the same intensity and passion going into a "technology" performance (or playback) that we believe it is true. And although, of course, a technology piece can have intensity, it cannot currently have the same level of data intensity as a live performer by a real person. Or at least, the same level of non-algorithmic data intensity. It is not just a matter of data intensity, but also of how that data is manipulated and what is added by live performance.
Consider.
